Westminster Kingsway College works with ELECTROLUX PROFESSIONAL

Tuesday 6th June 2006 – The new ELECTROLUX Escoffier Kitchen has been officially opened at Westminster Kingsway College. Students and staff in the School of Culinary Arts will produce some of their finest cuisine in the kitchen using equipment provided by leading catering equipment manufacturer ELECTROLUX PROFESSIONAL

Westminster Kingsway College has an excellent reputation within the hospitality and catering industry and famous former students include Jamie Oliver and Ainsley Harriot. The School of Hospitality & Catering has been awarded a Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) by the Learning & Skills Council. The ELECTROLUX Escoffier Kitchen was named after Auguste Escoffier (1846-1935) regarded as the master of the art of modern cookery.

The newly refurbished kitchen will be used to service the Escoffier Room – part of The Vincent Rooms Restaurant - at the College. The Escoffier Room provides a fine dining French menu cooked by 3rd Year Professional Chef Diploma students, while 2nd Year students run the front of house service. The new kitchen will also be used for teaching and showcasing the students’ talent.

Gary Hunter, Head of Culinary Arts:
“We were looking for a reliable kitchen for students to use. We chose ELECTROLUX PROFESSIONAL for a number of reasons including the durability of the kit and their innovative approach to design and the need for students to experience state of the art equipment. Many of our students use ELECTROLUX equipment at major competitions and work placements all year round and so it is great for them to practice in the new ELECTROLUX Escoffier Kitchen. We are really pleased with the results and now the Escoffier Kitchen is one of the best in the college!”

The College was pleased to work with ELECTROLUX PROFESSIONAL due to the existing working relationships they have built with other college training kitchens such as City of Bristol College and Oxford Brookes University. The ELECTROLUX Escoffier Kitchen at Westminster Kingsway College features some of the hospitality industry’s latest equipment.

ELECTROLUX Business Development Manager Keith Broadway worked closely with Westminster Kingsway College on the design and layout of the new kitchen. “We were tasked with creating a professional kitchen that could service the Escoffier Room and provide a suitable teaching environment for both students and lecturers. The most unique thing about the kitchen is the combination of technologies – from the tradition of MOLTENI to the flexibility of AIR-O-SYSTEM® and induction cooking.”
