When Electrolux Professional were given the task to refurbish Jane Seymour’s new restaurant kitchen at St Catherine’s Court, they were faced with the challenge to fully install a bespoke kitchen into a 14th century building.
As the current face of Electrolux Home Products in North America, Jane Seymour’s project coordinator Hein Van Vorstenbosch turned to Electrolux Professional for their high quality range in professional catering equipment. The hotel itself is located in the very secluded surroundings of rural Bath, which is perfectly located to host the more intimate of functions. It has great potential in attracting the more discerning guest, accommodating 15-20 guests.
Project Co-ordinator Hein van Vorstenbosch says “We were looking for state of the art equipment – ranging from professional laundry and kitchen solutions to gardening equipment and domestic machines. Electrolux has proven to be a one-stop shop able to provide us with all the solutions that we required.”
Each of the beautiful bedrooms are furnished with the highest quality fabrics in terms of bed linen, curtains and towels, which places a huge burden on the laundry. Previously this had been done with domestic machines that were not fit for the job – sometimes taking numerous days to complete the task. Other materials had to be dry cleaned – taking time and expense.
Now because of the professional laundry solution supplied and installed by Electrolux, the whole house can be turned around in five hours, which is an amazing improvement. “The domestic equipment simply could not cope with the massive job of laundering the different sizes and types of fabric we have” said Hein – who is particularly impressed with the unique Residual Moisture Control feature the Electrolux Dryers are equipped with. “Its incredible!!” - “Before we had RMC, the linen was crisp and difficult to finish – now it is dried to perfection and the finish is outstanding.”
When Hein initially briefed Electrolux Professional he asked the question as to whether they were able to provide a professional kitchen in a historical building. Project Co ordination Manager Graham Swales explains, ‘We needed to manage the installation in empathy with the 950AD Benedictine grade one listing structure’ Graham explains ‘we overcame a number of complicated situations, one of which was the ensuring all the refrigerated units were put onto plinths to ensure we did not impair the original stone flooring.’ Considering the age of the building, the Electrolux Professional team had to make absolutely certain that it would not compromise the structure of the original building.
The combination of equipment from Thermaline S90, Smart refrigeration, air o steam and dynamic preparation, allows fluidity and control of the quality of meals produced. Head Chef Hein Van Vorstenbosch explains ‘I have complete control over what I produce…the equipment allows flexibility whether it be preparing a meal for 10 or 120.’
Hein explained how he preferred to work with Electrolux Professional as they were able to offer a complete kitchen solution; ‘I needed refrigeration, prime cooking and dishwashing and Electrolux could provide all solutions.’ In reflection to the project Hein explains ‘It doesn’t get much better than this in light of all the restrictions we faced.’
